And just like that, Hood Growers is looking at our 9th season in Big Bear. In the off season I become reflective about priorities and vision. It’s like New Year’s resolutions, but I take them more seriously than that,
Hood Growers is committed to customer service. Having lived in Big Bear since 1991 I know what it’s like to shop up here, or to drive down the hill to find gardening help. My aim has always been to create a nursery experience where I would want to shop. That’s why we have demonstration areas around the nursery. Seeing plants established in a garden is a valuable tool in selecting what is right for your garden. Customer service means spending time with customers, and offering honest, science-based counseling for gardening in our unique environment. We invite you to come by the nursery anytime that works for you. That’s why we offer appointments. You can wander through our garden setting on your own, or get a detailed tour.
Hood Growers is committed to offering plants that thrive in Big Bear. We gather as many native and drought-tolerant plants as possible. We also love the idea of edible landscapes. Not everyone wants a farm, but integrating fruit-bearing plants into a garden is fun, practical, and delicious. At the same time, Big Bear is a wonderful setting for four season color and interest. Creating a garden that has color and texture throughout the year is very satisfying.
Hood Growers is committed to our community. We are proud sponsors of the Xeriscape Tour, and have made numerous donations to local charities, and public projects throughout the valley. We will continue to do this in 2025, and have created an easy form available here on our website to request a donation for your charity.
We wish you a terrific 2025, and look forward to seeing you. Feel free to come by and walk the meandering paths of plants here.
